Rossangelly Toro Carrillo, residential coordinator for Ursla Drive, has been with NECC for three years. A colleague described Rossie as “so kind and always happy … and she works tirelessly to ensure the residence is a home for our guys. She is always there to lend a hand and is a great mentor for our staff.” Get to know this week’s Staff Spotlight below.
What is your favorite part of your job?
By far my favorite part of my job is working with the students and their families. There truly is nothing more rewarding than watching your student master a skill they’ve been working on and seeing how much more independence they gain. The joy that their progress brings their families will forever warm your heart in a way you didn’t think was possible. These students will always teach me so much more than I could ever teach them.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
What started out as an internship really transformed itself into a passion as working with children with autism really gave me the opportunity to break down a lot of the misinformation of what autism is and isn’t. I want to be part of something that is working towards creating a truly more inclusive society for these students to help them achieve their greatness and broadcast that to the world on their terms.
What do you like doing outside of work?
I love trying new food and traveling whenever possible.
Is there anything you’d like to share with your colleagues?
THANK YOU! This job would not be possible with the support of each and every one of my colleagues. You make NECC a wonderful place to be at and no matter how tough things might get, it’s great knowing there is a whole team backing you up.
