How long have you worked for NECC?
I have been with NECC for a year and eight months. This May will mark my two-year anniversary. During my time here, I’ve served as a case manager, and currently work as a waivered special education teacher, as well as the back-up core shift manager for what I consider the best team!
What are your duties as a rehabilitation counselor?
As a rehabilitation counselor, I provide direct-care instruction to students, focusing on promoting growth and independence. I assist in implementing individualized education program (IEP) goals and objectives for my students. Also, I manage student cases and communicate weekly progress and activities to parents. A key part of my role involves supporting students’ overall well-being, both at school and in the residence. My responsibilities are the same as a level 2 teacher.

I chose this career because of my love for people and my passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Supporting children with autism is incredibly rewarding, as it allows me to empower them to reach their full potential and celebrate their progress every step of the way.
Why NECC?
I work at NECC because of its mission and approach to supporting children with autism. The organization’s commitment to fostering growth and development for both students and staff resonated with me. Also, NECC’s training and professional development opportunities made this an ideal place to advance my career while making an impact.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
Yes, I am currently enrolled in the Master of Education in Autism Specialization program at Simmons University. The knowledge and skills I’m gaining from this program have been incredibly beneficial to my teaching approach. It has broadened my understanding of special education and elevated my ability to meet the expectations of my role effectively.

Whether it’s a random question or a dive into a topic, I enjoy learning about a wide range of subjects, which often leads to interesting discoveries and new ideas!
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to my lovely mom, who has always modeled resilience and strength. She’s taught me the importance of perseverance and shaped me into the person I am today.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
My philosophy is to always strive for progress, not perfection. I believe in embracing growth, learning from challenges, and treating others with kindness and compassion while at it. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goals.
