Casey Gormely has worked as a level 2 teacher in the Intensive Instruction Program (IIP) at The New England Center for Children (NECC) for about a year. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague because “she is always going above and beyond for her students. The students are always so happy to see her, and I’ve never met a more positive person.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
I absolutely love being able to see the change and growth that the students make each and every day. These students are absolutely amazing and being able to help them progress towards their goals is such an honor.
Why NECC?
I originally came to NECC specifically for the behavior analysis master’s degree program that is offered through Western New England University (WNEU), but I quickly came to love the job! The students that I have worked with are so incredible, and I would not trade my experiences here for anything.
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
I am a part of the WNEU master’s degree in applied behavior analysis program that is offered onsite at NECC, and it has helped me immensely in my day-to-day work. Learning new skills that I am able to implement with my students has helped me so much, in such a short time. Being in the program also gives me an amazing network of support, which is truly invaluable.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I love to do anything crafty, and my favorite way to relax after a long week is to make bracelets!
Who is someone you look up to?
I truly do look up to my mom. She has been a teacher my whole life and has taught me such compassion and kindness when it comes to working with others. Because of her, I knew I wanted to work with children, and that eventually led me to where I am today.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
I know it’s simple but treat people the way that you want to be treated! I just think this is a good reminder for everyone’s day-to-day lives.
