Paula DeSimone has served as the face of The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) front desk as its receptionist for ten years. She was nominated by a colleague because she “is always friendly and welcoming, no matter what is going on, and is always willing to help. Paula brings warmth and friendliness to everyone who comes through the doors of NECC.”

What is a typical day like in your job?

No two days are ever alike. In general, I greet visitors and inform the person/team that their appointments have arrived and answer the phones for outside callers as well as maintenance calls. I keep the team/office extension and staff contacts lists, log releases, sort the mail, log checks, make announcements, and receive lots and lots of pizza orders as well as act as the lost and found for the complex.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Seeing the faces of the proud parents and families of a graduating NECC student!

What’s one aspect of your job you wish everyone could experience?

Answering the phone when an unannounced visitor comes in, a mountain of pizza arrives, and the fire alarm goes off all at the same time. That has happened more than once!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love reading and holding a real book, spending time with my friends and my crazy dog, and traveling the world (when possible).

Who is someone you look up to?

There are many people in my life I look up to!

What is your life philosophy or a motto you like to live by?

Try to read every banned book you can. Libraries are the best place to find them!
