On March 27, The Landmark featured a cover story on the the Duffy family of Holden, MA, who are part of The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Early Markers of Autism Infant Sibling Study.

Because 20% of siblings of children with autism are diagnosed with autism, the Duffys decided to enroll two of their children, Cameron and Ava, into the study after their older brother Anthony received an autism diagnosis when he turned 3. Erin Michaud, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCBA-D, LABA, principal investigator of the Early Markers of Autism Infant Sibling Study at NECC, shared that she and her team followed Ava closely from birth to 18 months for signs of autism, of which they saw none, and will continue to monitor as she turns 2 and 3 years old.
