The Michael S. Dukakis Aquatic Center at NECC is a favorite spot for students and staff. For many children with autism, being in the water is calming and comfortable, and NECC’s adapted physical education curriculum includes weekly pool time. Learning to swim is only part of the program. Water safety and skills are incredibly important for our student population and having equipment that fits each child and is comfortable removes that barrier to successful outcomes in the water.
Each year, NECC provides bathing suits for each student and staff member – more than 400 per year. And life jackets are essential. After a year battling the pandemic, we look to our friends to help support replacement of our current stock of life vests. Thank you for supporting this initiative!
