Corey Galante is in his third year working for The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Partner Program as a tutor at a high school in Derry, NH. He was nominated by a colleague because he “consistently goes above and beyond for every student and team member that he works with. Corey has the best ‘can-do’ attitude and comes into work each day smiling and with positive energy. He has demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, and a talent for ABA. Corey has recently moved to a new classroom and has taken on every challenge thrown at him with a smile and fierce dedication to the students.”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I worked at NECC from 2018 to 2021 as a tutor at a middle school in Derry, NH, then left, but came back in February 2022.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the progress of the students every single day. I also love hanging out with each kiddo every day and appreciate the unique differences of each student — you can go from having a blast playing Wii with one student to having a dance party with another!
What are your daily duties/schedule like as a tutor in Derry?
I have a personal case student and each day I track behavior and IEP objective data. I also work with the lead teacher to come up with new IEP goals and create new stimuli for those goals.
What is something you would like people to know about working in the Partner Program?
Something that people should know about working in the Partner Program is that it can be so rewarding. Creating work for a student and then watching the student grow from the day they start the work until they master it is the best. It really is a great job to get into if you are looking to work in the special education field.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
When I was in high school, I was a mentor for the Special Olympics and became extremely close with a peer with autism. Ever since then, I have wanted to help kids with autism.
Why NECC?
I chose NECC because it is the best of the best in the field!
Who is someone you look up to?
I have had many mentors in the field who have helped me along the way, so it’s tough to name just one person!
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
My life moto, especially in this field, is from Nick Saban: “You can’t win together if you don’t work together.” This is extremely true because it is not just one person who makes each day a success, it’s the entire team!
