Clare Mack, assistant director of human resources, has worked in The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Human Resources Department for nine years and in a variety of roles. She was nominated by colleagues because her friendly demeanor and positive attitude are an asset to her department. “Clare welcomes staff with a smile and is always willing to assist employees with their benefit inquiries,” shared one colleague. “She exhibits professionalism at all times and makes herself available to employees and coworkers as needed. She is always willing to jump into a new project and lend support across the agency. She has an unwavering commitment to NECC’s mission and our students!”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I just celebrated my nine-year anniversary. I started as human resources (HR) coordinator, then a few years later moved into HR specialist role. After that I worked as the HR/benefits manager for four years and as of this contract year, I have taken on the role of assistant director of human resources.
What are your responsibilities of your job?
To name a few… I help to oversee the Human Resources office and assist with payroll tasks; handle all FMLA/medical leaves; work closely with occupational health on workers compensation; as well as benefit administration oversight of NECC-Southborough and NECC-UAE record upkeep in our database.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I enjoy interacting with employees whether helping to solve an issue, talking to them about an upcoming leave, or helping to build company culture.
Why did you choose a career at NECC?
I wanted to work where I could help make a difference. Even though I don’t work directly with the students, walking down the hallway and seeing them every day puts a smile on my face. I really value the work our direct care staff do each and every day.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two daughters who attend the NECC daycare, and they absolutely love it. I am a huge Boston sports fan, especially the Bruins!
Who is someone you look up to?
My parents! They have helped me become the person I am today. They are both great role models not only as parents but in their professions. They are always there for support and advice when needed.
What is your life philosophy or a motto you like to live by?
“Teamwork makes the dream work!”
