In the last two years, the pandemic has had an adverse effect on special education services, especially those for children with autism. “Black musicians and artists have been present throughout the evolution of music from the start, they just aren’t really included in history,” said music teacher Nadia Castagna. “Black artists and musicians have paved the way in the music community for some of the very popular genres that we covet today.”
NECC isn’t just an ideal place to start and grow your career—it’s also been a place where many staff have met their significant others. In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked both current staff and staff alumni couples how they met and how and what they are doing today.
Kevin Quinlan has served as the kitchen manager at The New England Center for Children for five years. A colleague nominated Kevin because he “always has a smile on his face, greets fellow staff and students with a positive attitude, and seems to genuinely love his job.”
Aaron Peeper has worked as a member of the Food Services team at The New England Center for Children since February 2019. During that time, Aaron has earned the reputation as a hard worker and team player.
Kara Dicruttalo, a level 2 teacher, has worked at NECC’s Higley Road residence for the past two and a half years. A colleague nominated Kara because she is a “passionate, helpful and dedicated teacher” who “constantly encourages her students to try their hardest and always celebrates their accomplishments.”
On Monday, January 17, we celebrate the life, legacy, and service of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This day has also been observed as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Meaghan Letson, an IIP Day Coordinator, was nominated for being “an admirable staff advocate by always making sure each staff on her team feels heard,” as well as advocating for the overall student, ensuring they are successful academically as well as in all other areas.
