Thomas Lloyd, an IT desktop support associate, has worked at The New England Center for Children (NECC) for a year and a half. He was nominated for Staff Spotlight because he is “so helpful, attentive, and kind,” and “goes out of his way,” whether assisting a staff member with a lost computer or troubleshooting a problem on an iPad to help a student communicate more effectively. Colleagues shared that “it seems like he is very invested in his job at NECC, and his effective communication style ensured the problem was resolved quickly and with no miscommunications” and “he is always willing to help in any way that he can, and his assistance directly impacts the staff and students on a daily basis.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
The best part of working at the Helpdesk is being able to see the difference I make for our staff and students directly.
How did you choose a career working in IT?
I see IT as a blend of customer service and technology, so I took what I’m good at (customer service) and what I’m passionate about (tech) and made a career where I can feel valuable and knowledgeable to the best of my ability.
Why NECC?
I really believe in the mission of NECC and that every student deserves the opportunity to learn. When I was younger, I volunteered for some special education summer camps and really connected with the students. I’m glad that my work now can continue to help and support our students through my career.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
My partner and I take care of three rabbits at home and occasionally volunteer with the local rabbit rescue, House Rabbit Network.
Who is someone you look up to?
Someone I look up to is my dad. He’s worked extremely hard throughout his life but has kept his head up and keeps moving forward no matter what.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
Stay growing! I try to keep my skills sharp and make sure that I’m learning new things constantly.
