Emma Parsons, a level 2 teacher and back-up core shift manager (CSM) for The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Westborough 1 residential team, has worked at NECC for four years. She was nominated for Staff Spotlight by a colleague because she “always goes above and beyond for everyone. Even on the hardest days, Emma is always positive and happy, and always willing to help a coworker. She’s someone we all look up to!”
How long have you worked for NECC?
I’ve worked at NECC for four years, starting on West Hill Road before moving to Westborough 1 as a CSM, case manager, and recently as our education coordinator assistant.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is watching my students gain independence. They all work incredibly hard every day and seeing that hard work pay off is so rewarding!
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
My first job involved working with kids with disabilities, and it sparked an interest that I haven’t lost.
Why NECC?
I was first connected with NECC through a job fair when I was an undergrad. I thought it sounded like a great opportunity, and it has been!
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC? If so, how has it affected your teaching style?
Yes! I graduated with my master’s degree in education with an autism specialization from Simmons University in May. Thanks to the programs NECC connects us with, I’ve learned SO MUCH. I recommend anyone thinking about the program to check it out!
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
I love to garden!
Who is someone you look up to?
I look up to my mom, who has always been a great role model on how to balance giving back to others without forgetting to care for yourself.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
Good, better, best. Never let it rest. ‘Til your good is your better and your better is your best!
