Becca Reardon, a level 2 teacher and back-up core shift manager (CSM) for The New England Center for Children’s (NECC) Westborough 2 residence, has worked for NECC for three years. She was nominated by colleagues because she is “a strong teacher and leader on West 2. She invests deeply in all the girls and shows a great balance of fun and work. Becca can always be trusted to get done what needs to be done. She is a great source of knowledge for anyone new and always gives good insight and opinions when something new is being brought to the team. How long have you worked for NECC?
I’ve been at NECC for over three years. In 2020, I started as an intern on West 2, but had to leave during COVID. After graduating college, I came back as a level 2 teacher. Since returning, I have been a case manager, back-up CSM, and residential coordinator assistant.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the progress that our students make here. It’s incredible to watch them grow, learn new things, and gain independence in so many aspects of their lives.
Why did you choose a career in helping children with autism?
I chose this career because I truly wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I believe it is so important that children with autism have access to the support and environment needed to learn and grow.
Why NECC?
During my undergrad, I needed to find an internship to gain experience in the field that I wanted to work in, and NECC gave me the best opportunity to do this. I was able to work directly with students to gain more knowledge, and I fell in love with the ladies on West 2, which is why I returned as a teacher!
Have you taken advantage of any of the grad programs or teacher training at NECC?
I am not currently in any grad programs. However, I have completed many trainings through NECC that have helped me learn how to be a better leader and teacher.
What is something about you that your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
Something most people don’t know about me is that I attended a vocational high school. While I was earning my high school diploma, I also earned a certification in architectural drafting, which is designing construction plans needed to build homes and buildings.
What is your life philosophy or motto you like to live by?
Something I often say is “appreciate the small things.” I think it’s a good reminder to focus on the things that bring us happiness instead of focusing on things that are negative.
