This month, the NECC community will join together to celebrate Pride Month, which is held annually in June. Pride is a month-long national celebration of the diversity and unity within the LGBTQIA+ community. People of all genders and sexual orientations continue to celebrate and commemorate the tremendous strides that the LGBTQIA+ community has made throughout history. Pride is held in June to honor the uprising at the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969, which served as a catalyst for gay rights movements across the United States.

Pride represents a positive stance against discrimination and violence towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. These celebrations foster community engagement and promote positive changes that strengthen visibility and inclusivity.

NECC hopes you’ll join us this month as we reflect upon, celebrate, and honor the LGBTQIA+ communities at NECC and beyond. In addition to attending one of the many local celebrations or educational events, you can support your fellow LGBTQIA+ coworkers by reading one or more of the following:
