It is taught using a combination of discrete trials and incidental learning opportunities guided by the teacher's use of techniques based on theprinciplesof Applied Behavior Analysis. In the Regular Classroom, aiding thechild in the development of communication skills is the highest priority. Academics, including reading, math, science and social studies are also offered in addition to a continued emphasis on social and self-help skills. As students get older, the NECC curriculum expands to functional life skills and vocational training. The vocational component is based on a supported employment model, with an emphasis on community jobs.
