NECC Abu Dhabi

In June 2007 The New England Center for Children signed a long term contract with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Co.-SEHA during a ceremony in the presence of H.H. Mohammed bin Zayed at his Sea Palace. Under the terms of the agreement, NECC® has established a comprehensive educational program, currently serving 24 students ranging from 3 to 8 years old diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. The program will expand services to a total of 36 children within the next year.

Besides providing direct services to children with autism, NECC-AD will add the full spectrum of services that it provides in the USA. This includes early assessment and intervention to achieve best possible outcomes, pre-school programming, residential services for severe cases, family support services, professional training and development, and a research program to support best clinical practices in education and treatment for children with Autism in the U.A.E. SEHA will build a large permanent center for the program in Mohammed Bin Zayed City due to be completed by the end of 2010. The permanent school will service more than 100 students in the future.

NECC-AD is staffed with a combination of professionals from NECC's US facilities as well as Arabic speakers from the Gulf region. Although most instruction is in English, the program provides basic Arabic language instruction and culture training for the children, as their development allows.

A key part of the mission of NECC-AD is to provide outreach, professional development and training opportunities for others who want to utilize the most effective autism treatments available. Dr. Daniel Gould, NECC-AD Clinical Director and Board Certified Behavior Analyst, highlighted this goal at the recent Opening Ceremony in saying, "In order to reach all the children who need effective, ABA-based treatment in Abu Dhabi we must train others so they can provide similar programs. We hope that a local college or university will become interested in this critical need."
