New England Center for Children | Semester Internships

The New England Center for Children offers a unique cooperative learning opportunity for college students through our Semester at NECC program.

Students from Hamilton College, Western New England College, and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts interested in applied psychology and education now have the opportunity to spend the Spring or Fall semester at our Southborough campus. Highlights of the program:

  • The semester at NECC gives juniors and seniors the opportunity for practical experience in special education and applied psychology while receiving full academic credit from their college or university.
  • The program includes both didactic course work and supervised practicum experiences. Trainees learn theoretical and practical applications of behavior analysis techniques, how to develop educational curriculum and behavior management programs for students who have a range of needs.
  • Trainees attend graduate-level courses offered on-site by Northeastern University and Simmons College professors. In addition, they also spend about 30 hours each week gaining hands-on experience as student teacher.

We encourage students from the above-named colleges interested in this program to consult with the chair of their Department of Psychology. Students from other colleges/universities interested in participating in this opportunity should contact us.
