David is spending the day
learning the ins and outs
of his new job at the community
hospital, where he has been
hired to work in the cafeteria.
He knows that he is expected
to keep the tables cleared,
wash and stack the trays,
push in the chairs and many
other duties that will keep
the cafeteria running smoothly.
David is a member of NECC’s
Adult Program and he’s
been preparing to enter
the job force for some time
now.
As a student at NECC,
he developed his communication,
socialization and self-help
skills. He learned how
to rely on his own independent
life skills to solve problems,
keep himself safe and
enjoy his life to the
fullest potential. When
David turned 22 he became
a participant in NECC’s
Adult Program. Now no
longer a student, David
is considered an adult
consumer.
Through the program,
David is given the chance
to learn about career
planning, socialization
and more. David lives
in a supervised home with
four other adult consumers
and they share in all
of the household responsibilities.
David enjoys helping to
cook the daily meals and
he thinks he’s going
to enjoy his new job at
the hospital cafeteria.
